9 April 2008 - International Rail - European Football Championships

Buy a rail pass, then play around Austria and Switzerland during the European Football Championships.

Round ball fanatics never need an excuse to head to Europe, but this year’s European Football Championships in Austria and Switzerland provide enough scenery, culture, music and hip bars to almost distract them from the footy.

Kick-off is on June 7, and the easiest way to get around the matches is on a Eurail Austria-Switzerland Pass, which gives four to 10 days unlimited rail travel in both countries within a two month period. First class adult passes start at $470, but Saver passes offer even better value if at least two people travel together.

Passes can be bought at https://www.trainticket.com.au, Australia’s own specialist international rail site that’s operated by International Rail Australasia.

The Eurail system will quickly take fans around matches in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt in Austria, and between Swiss matches in Geneva, Zurich, Basle and Berne.

If they can take their eye off the ball for a bit, there’s Vienna’s famous nightlife to explore, Mozart’s music in Salzburg, the Tyrolean Alps, the beauty of Lake Geneva and lots more.

A third country can be included for travels, just by taking the Eurail Select Pass 3 Countries which gives between five and 10 days travel within two months. First class adult prices start at $568, and are less on Saver fares.
